Book Reviews
Here are several book reviews I have written. Most of them I wrote for the wonderful online magazine, Suite101. I mainly read and review personal development and self help books. I enjoy them and figure they can’t hurt me.
I do lighten up and read novels, biographies, cookbooks and craft books so will include those here as well.
Self Help
- The Good Person Guidebook: Transforming Your Personal Life by Dr. Richard Bayer. How to balance competition with cooperation, sharing with greed and quick fix solutions with long-term plans are discussed with interesting insights.
- Moving Forward by Dave Pelzer: Let go of the past and gain the strength to persevere.
- Five Secrets Before You Die by Dr. John Izzo: Dr. John Izzo interviewed over 200 people, researching the secrets of living a meaningful happy life. Wise elders advice and his experiences teach us how to practice them.
- Run With the Bulls: Thrive in the Workplace Without Getting Trampled by Dr. Tim Irwin
- The Offsite: A Leadership Challenge Fable by Robert H. Thompson. (Review from parent’s perspective.) Here’s another review I wrote of The Offsite on Suite101 in the Reading and Literature section.
- Stay Healthy, LIve Longer, Spend Wisely: Making Intelligent Choices in America’s Healthcare System: Davis Lui, M.D. uses his knowledge and experience to help Americans choose the best health care.
- Addicted to Stress: A Woman’s 7 Step Program Obviously if people like themselves, they tend to be less stressed out. Always catering to others wants and needs frequently backfires and women end up feeling full of resentment.
Biographies/Memoirs
- Angels of a Lower Flight by Susie Scott Krabacher. Former Playboy Centerfold Now Helps Haitians as Humanitarian
- Sixty Five Roses: Heather Summerhayes Cariou bravely shares her family’s touching story of how they struggled to remain normal with her sister Pam’s disease, Cystic Fibrosis.
Novels
- Theft of the Master: Edwin Alexander skillfully combines his talent for research and writing with accurate historical accounts. The dramatic murder mystery includes much suspense.
